Relay Harnesses: How Do They Work?
A relay is an electrically operated switch that has an electromagnet built into the component. A relay utilizes a “trigger” wire which magnetizes the coil inside which causes a small iron arm to be drawn to the coil and effectively bridge the broken the circuit. Once this happens, power is then drawn from a fixed location that the relay uses to route power to the output source. A common usage for this would be for HID conversion kits, LED lights, and fog lights to allow a sufficient power source to be used for the application which in this case are lights. Relay harnesses are almost mentioned synonymously with many LED and HID lights.
